Art direction, graphic production, print production
One of the most rewarding experiences I've had as a designer was working in the magazine publishing industry. In a short period of time, I was promoted from production assistant to Senior Designer of a monthly consumer magazine which covered the colorful world of professional wrestling. I also had the privilege of working on many "one-shot" magazines including the Dave Mathews Band fan magazine below.
Although the designs very much reflect the time frame they were produced and the audience to whom they were targeted (we used ALL of the fonts), I'm nevertheless proud of the work. My time in this position significantly impacted the designer and leader I am today.
W.O.W. Magazine (World of Wrestling)
Despite its larger than life, cartoonish nature, professional wrestling has a very serious core following. Where our magazine differed from the official publications of the various wrestling federations (such as WWE Magazine), was in the way our stories illustrated the lives and careers of the real people behind characters.
